Casemiro rediscovered his form just in time to help Manchester United on their quest to Europa League glory.
An epic nine-goal thriller took place at Old Trafford as Manchester United beat Lyon 5-4 to progress to the Europa League semi-finals on Thursday night.
Ruben Amorim named an unchanged starting line-up from the first-leg in Lyon and it started perfectly as two goals from Manuel Ugarte and Diogo Dalot had United leading 2-0 at half-time.
However, lots of drama would unfold and it started in a matter of six minutes when Lyon scored two goals to force extra time.
The French side took their chances and scored two more goals to give them some comfort ahead of the dying minutes, but that was before three late goals from Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire inspired a memorable United comeback.
Most United first-team members performed well on the night but Casemiro was at his best in the middle of the pitch.

Casemiro reacts to ‘crazy’ win over Lyon
Although there are doubts over Casemiro’s future, the Brazil veteran put that aside and focused on his football when Manchester United took on Lyon.
The 33-year-old has been enjoying a resurgence under Amorim after performing superbly in both legs as United knocked Real Sociedad out of the Europa League in the round-of-16.
Casemiro won the penalty in the 114th minute before Fernandes scored his spot kick. He also assisted Mainoo’s equaliser and Maguire’s winner.
On top of that, Casemiro won more duels (9) and created more chances (4) than any other United player.
Casemiro took to Instagram after the match to react to the “crazy” events that took place at Old Trafford.
Roberto Carlos reacts to Manchester United win
Casemiro’s reaction on Instagram drew attention from some of his compatriots in Brazil.
Roberto Carlos was the biggest name of the lot and he sent a message to the Brazilian midfielder after United’s memorable win.
The legendary wing-back wrote “boa lindo” which translates as a congratulatory message.
What’s next for Casemiro?
With Casemiro rediscovering his form under Amorim, it gives the manager a chance to work towards something for the rest of the season.
United will benefit from Casemiro’s experience in European competition and it has shown in ties against Real Sociedad and Lyon.
Amorim must decide to manage Casemiro carefully over the coming weeks because there is nothing to play for in the Premier League, so it may be a risk starting him in those games when the Europa League is our priority.
Casemiro could feature this weekend when United host Wolves, but he will have to wait two weeks for the first-leg of the semi-finals against Bilbao.
