Neymar makes history

The new Saudi Pro League winger was his dazzling self in the fixture. He scored two goals, provided one assist and got a Man of the Match award.

However, it was the impact Neymar’s goals had a historical context why the former Paris Saint Germain winger will remember this fixture for the rest of his life.

It was memorable due to the fact Neymar surpassed Pele as Brazil’s male all-time top scorer.

Neymar went into the World Cup qualifying match tied with the legendary forward Pele on 77 goals. He actually missed a penalty, which would have secured it – but he scored twice in the second half to surpass the great Pele.

Casemiro pays tribute

Manchester United star and Brazilian teammate paid tribute to his teammate via Instagram:

‘Spectacular first step to the next World Cup. Thanks to all our Belhem fans and congratulations to @neymarjr for making history with the national team!!’

Casemiro has been a player that has seen Neymar go from strength to strength in the national setup. They’re both eh same age and have grown and nurtured as players.

It will have been amazing to see Neymar’s growth and trajectory as a teammate for such a long period of time, so it’s no surprise to see Casemiro congratulating his countryman.
