Manchester United will discover who their Carabao Cup third-round opponents are during tonight’s draw.

Erik ten Hag will find out who he will come up against in his first domestic cup match in England.

The draw will take place live on Sky Sports, following the conclusion of the tie between Tranmere Rovers and Newcastle United.

This is the stage when the seven Premier League sides involved in Europe enter the competition.

The third-round of the Carabao Cup usually takes place in September, but due to this season’s schedule being heavily restructured due to the winter World Cup taking place in Qatar, the third-round has been delayed by a couple of months.

The round of 32 matches will not take place until week commencing 7 November, which is the midweek before the Premier League finishes ahead of the tournament in Qatar.

The Red Devils were knocked out of last year’s competition at the third-round stage by David Moyes’ West Ham United who edged Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side 1-0 win at Old Trafford.

United last lifted the trophy in 2017, when beating our next Premier League opponents Southampton 3-2, as Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored twice to win the trophy for Jose Mourinho’s men.

The Carabao Cup final, which represents the first opportunity to win silverware, is due to take place at Wembley on 26 February 2023.

While there are four more second-round ties to take place tonight, Fulham are the only Premier League side to be knocked out so far having been beaten by League Two side Crawley Town.

Manchester United are ball number 18 in tonight’s draw and Ten Hag will no doubt be targeting the competition as his first chance to win a trophy since taking the reins.
