Former Manchester United Academy star Cameron Borthwick-Jackson has reflected on making his senior debut for the Red Devils 10 years ago.

Cameron Borthwick-Jackson joined the Manchester United Academy at the age of six in 2003 before progressing through the youth ranks.

In 2015/16, Borthwick-Jackson won the prestigious Denzil Haroun Reserve Player of the Year award, which honours the best players in the reserves.

Borthwick-Jackson was sent on loan five times by United to experience senior football in the lower leagues, including the Championship with Wolves and Leeds. He also had loan spells at Scunthorpe, Tranmere Rovers and Oldham Athletic.

After spending a total of 17 years as a United player, mostly as a youthful prospect, Borthwick-Jackson was released when his contract expired in June 2020.

Cameron Borthwick-Jackson reflects on Man Utd debut

Louis van Gaal gave Borthwick-Jackson his senior debut for United in November 2015.

The left-back came on as a substitute for Marcos Rojo in the 76th minute, with Van Gaal later explaining that he brought on the youngster to ease the workload on the experienced Argentina international.

United won the match 2-0 against West Brom, with Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata getting on the scoresheet.

Borthwick-Jackson went on to make a total of 14 appearances for United, but now he has shared an emotional throwback message on Instagram to remind fans of how his senior career started.

“10 years since it all began. Just a boy with a dream,” Borthwick Jackson wrote.

“These pictures represent a journey filled with highs, lows and everything in between. Nevertheless it’s the beautiful game we all love.

“Time away has presented me with the opportunity to reflect on everything. New challenges and obstacles I never thought I’d have to deal with. It’s taught me what’s important and what isn’t. Where to channel my energy and where not to. But most of all, that the work never stops.

“The marathon continues.”

What is Cameron Borthwick-Jackson doing now?

Borthwick-Jackson has played for Oldham Athletic, Ślask Wroclaw and Ross County (loan) since his release from United.

However, after a temporary spell at Ross County last year, Borthwick-Jackson became a free agent and has struggled to find a new club.

The former United academy graduate recently joined Ballers League, a six-a-side tournament, becoming one of the biggest names on the roster.

Borthwick-Jackson still has time to find a new club and return to professional football at a competitive level.
