Burnley star reveals what Man Utd did that left them shellshocked, Ruben Amorim will want even more

Manchester United took all three points against Burnley thanks to a stoppage time penalty.

Bruno Fernandes scored a 97th minute winner to help Manchester United register a 3-2 victory over newly promoted Burnley.

United took the lead twice, first when a Casemiro header was deflected in for an own goal to give United a 1-0 lead at half-time.

Burnley then equalised before Bryan Mbeumo scored his first Old Trafford goal after a smart Diogo Dalot cut-back.

The visitors scored again and looked set to hold on to claim a point, before Amad was felled inside the box in injury time, and Fernandes converted the penalty.

Lyle Foster praised Manchester United’s fast start

Manchester United dominated the game in key statistics, with 62 per cent possession and 3.54 expected goals to Burnley’s 1.2 xG.

United had 26 shots at goal compared to Burnley’s six, and were the superior side from the very start. But it wasn’t until the 27th minute that United scored.

Ruben Amorim’s side almost scored twice inside the first five minutes, and should have had more to show at half-time than just a 1-0 lead.

Speaking to Burnley’s media, striker Lyle Foster admitted the Clarets were not prepared for Manchester United’s fast start and even admitted to feeling ‘lost’.

He explained: “The first half we were a bit taken aback by the way they came. I don’t think we expected them to come the way they did. We didn’t have our footing really, lost in a sense.”

United have started quickly in the two previous Premier League games against Arsenal and Fulham, but failed to score from the chances created.

It took a set piece for United to break the deadlock, and Ruben Amorim will want his side to start being more ruthless in front of goal.

Failure to take the chances cost United in the games with Arsenal and Fulham, and almost haunted them against Burnley.

Foster dreamed of scoring at Old Trafford

Foster was one of Burnley’s two scorers along with Jaidon Anthony, and the South African forward admitted it was a dream come true to score at Manchester United’s world famous stadium.

“For sure, it’s a dream for me, growing up having watched this my whole life. Being at Old Trafford and scoring is something I dreamt of but never thought would become reality. I thank God for this beautiful moment.”

He was still frustrated by Burnley conceding a penalty late, adding: “I’m disappointed for the game to end the way it ended. I feel like we deserved something from the game, for it to end in that way I think it was a bit unjust.”
