Burnley could be without Anass Zaroury for the Carabao Cup fourth-round clash against Manchester United due to his World Cup exploits.

The 22-year-old winger is still in Qatar as he is part of the Moroccan side that became the first African nation to reach the World Cup semi-finals.

The Atlas Lions take on the reigning world champions France tonight with a spot in Sunday’s World Cup final against Lionel Messi’s Argentina on the line.

Morocco have been the surprise package of the tournament and having beaten Belgium, Spain and Portugal, as well as drawing against Croatia, Cheddira’s side will be hoping to pull off another shock by ousting Didier Deschamps’ Les Bleus.

Zaroury, who has one cap for Morocco to his name, is yet to feature in Qatar and make his World Cup bow.

But given Erik ten Hag’s Red Devils take on Vincent Kompany’s Clarets in seven days, it would be a surprise to see Zaroury feature at Old Trafford.

If Morocco do get beaten by France in the last-four they will face Croatia in a third place play-off on Saturday.

Since making the move to Turf Moor from Belgian Jupiler Pro League side Charleroi, in August, Zaroury has made an impressive start to life in England.

Burnley’s number 19 has six goals and two assists from 14 appearances, and prior to departing for the World Cup he’d scored three goals in two games.

Burnley marked their return to competitive action, following the winter break, by beating Queens Park Rangers 3-0 at Loftus Road.

Kompany’s side, who sit top of the Championship, welcome Michael Carrick’s Middlesbrough to Turf Moor on Saturday before heading to Old Trafford four days later.
