Bryan Robson says he has been told Anthony Elanga is Manchester United’s quickest player

Anthony Elanga was Manchester United’s breakout star last season after impressing former interim boss Ralf Rangnick.

The Sweden international has started one of the three pre-season games so far as he looks to try and recapture the spark which helped him break into the team.

Former United star Bryan Robson spoke about Elanga to MUTV before kick-off against Crystal Palace earlier today, and said the forward has been talked up by United’s technical director.

Robson said: “When I was speaking with Darren Fletcher, he said he’s [Elanga] probably the quickest at the club.”

United’s quickest player

Pace is one of Anthony Elanga’s biggest attributes, but Robson points out that the 21-year-old needs to add more to his game.

He said: “He has to use that pace and make the right runs. He has to get in the box and score goals.

“If you get four chances in a game can you put two of them away?”

Robson urged Elanga to become as lethal as former United stars Dwight Yorke, Andy Cole and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who all had a ruthless edge in front of goal.

Elanga has four first team goals for United so far, and will readily admit he needs to score more frequently.

His last competitive strike for the club came against Atletico Madrid, which was a moment of ruthlessness, netting with his only shot at goal.

However, he failed to kick on afterwards, with his form dragged down by United’s malaise at the end of last season, and enters this campaign looking to rebuild.

Elanga really has to prove himself all over again, and with the front three positions not yet strengthened this summer, United need him to step up.

His pace will always cause trouble for opponents, and Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff will have to try and channel that to help him harness his potential.
