Bruno Fernandes yellow cards mean suspension is very close

Manchester United could set to lose one of their key players to suspension if he is carded during the Red Devils trip to Craven Cottage on Saturday.

The Red Devils need a win by any means necessary otherwise the season will fall even further down the proverbial abyss into disaster territory.

Erik ten Hag will need his key men to be fit and firing although the Dutchman may well spring a few surprises with his team selection and drop one of his star men.

One star player for Manchester United who will surely not be dropped is Bruno Fernandes, the current club captain at Old Trafford.

Fernandes risk

Well, as it transpires, the Portuguese midfielder is one more yellow card away from being suspended for the home match against Luton Town in the Premier League.

The former Sporting Lisbon midfielder has been nowhere near the pace this season, as opposed to last season where Ten Hag seemed to add a new dimension to his game which included more risk-averse passes and sustained possession play.

However, that good form has gone out of the window at present and the midfielder has seemingly regressed to the 2021/2022 season where he was, also, abysmal.

If the midfielder were to be suspended against Luton Town, it would perhaps not be the worst thing in the world as it would surely force Ten Hag to give Hannibal Mejbri a chance to thrive in an environment where there isn’t as much pressure.

United’s ill-discipline

During the 3-0 defeat to Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup, Mejbri was in danger of being sent off for the Red Devils but none of the senior players pulled him aside to warn him that another card was incoming.

Instead, the Tunisian midfielder continued to hurtle around the pitch at 100 miles per hour and was lucky to avoid being sent off against the Geordie side.

The lack of discipline is mirrored by the behaviour of Fernandes who, at times, struggles to keep his mouth shut when it comes to complaining to the referees about decisions.

The discipline of the team in general needs to improve.
