Manchester United attacking midfielder Bruno Fernandes praised Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos after Portugal’s 2-0 win against Portugal last night.
Fernando Santos’ Selecao secured their passage to the last-16 thanks to two goals from Fernandes.
Despite Cristano Ronaldo’s best efforts and performance, United’s number eight was awarded Portugal’s opener before the 28-year-old scored a second from the penalty spot with United’s former number seven already being replaced.
The former Sporting Lisbon captain came close to scoring a World Cup hat-trick, but he was denied by Uruguay keeper Sergio Rochet and the post.

Like against Ghana, Ramos came onto replace the five-time Ballon d’Or winner in the closing stages against La Celeste.
The 21-year-old scored on his senior Portugal debut against Nigeria earlier this month in what was the Selecao’s warm-up game for the World Cup in Qatar.
The Sun have previously reported that Erik ten Hag’s Red Devils have an eye on the Benfica striker.
From 21 appearances for the Portuguese giants this season, Ramos has 14 goals and six assists to his name.
Ramos, who has already surpassed his goalscoring tally from last season (8), has 28 goals and ten assists from 80 appearances for Benfica.

He’s playing in a Benfica side that have dropped just two points from 13 league matches this season and qualified for the Champions League last-16 as Group H winners, in a group which contained European giants Juventus and Paris Saint Germain.
Like Joao Felix and Rafael Leao, Ramos is seemingly one of many talented emerging Portugal youngsters ready to step up and lead the line when Ronaldo eventually decides to call time on his career.
While Ramos has already been linked with a move to Old Trafford, one Red Devils star who would seemingly approve of that switch is Fernandes.
After Ramos’ cameo against Uruguay, the Benfica marksman posted on Instagram.
Fernandes responded to the post by commenting: “What an animal”.
With Portugal now into the last 16, Ramos could come into the side to make his first start, if Cristiano Ronaldo is given a rest up front.
