Bruno Fernandes shines in Manchester United win v Leicester

Bruno Fernandes retained the Manchester United captaincy for the third successive game – as the club racked up a third win.

Manchester United beat Leicester City 1-0 at the King Power Stadium, the scene of an awful 4-1 defeat last season.

Fernandes has been inspired by taking the armband, with Harry Maguire dropped to the bench once again.

United stuck with the same starting XI as the previous two games, and kept a second clean sheet in a row, with Fernandes driving United forward at the other end.

Fernandes shines v Leicester

Fernandes scored United’s winner at the weekend against Southampton, and he led by example against Leicester on Thursday night too.

The Portuguese star was one of United’s best players on the night, contributing in both an attacking and defensive way.

He had 77 touches, more than any Manchester United midfielder or attacker, and played all 90 minutes.

Fernandes also created three goalscoring chances, more than any player on the pitch.

He won two tackles, made one interception, one clearance, and made eight ball recoveries. He also won five duels and won one free-kick.

If Cristiano Ronaldo had slipped him through in stoppage time, he would have had a great chance to double United’s lead. In the end his night ended without a shot at goal.

United’s attack hasn’t really clicked despite the three wins; United have scored only five goals in five games this season.

The addition of Antony could help solve this, he will be available this weekend against Arsenal, with United looking to make it four games in a row.
