Portugal star Bruno Fernandes sent a heartfelt message to one Manchester United teammate who recently extended his stay at Old Trafford after signing a new deal.

Bruno Fernandes is currently away on international duty with Portugal for Euro 2024 in Germany, with the Manchester United star playing a key role for his country.

The 29-year-old Red Devils skipper has featured in three of Portugal’s four matches at this summer’s Euros so far, with Fernandes scoring in the 3-0 win over Turkey.

Fernandes was an unused substitute in the shock 2-0 defeat to Georgia in Group F before returning to the starting XI for the round-of-16 tie against Slovenia.

Portugal, who are one of the tournament favourites, punched their ticket to the quarter-finals with a penalty shootout win against a resilient Slovenia side.

Fernandes had linked up with United teammate Diogo Dalot and club legend Cristiano Ronaldo for Portugal’s campaign at the UEFA tournament.

Fernandes sends Man Utd teammate a message

Manchester United on Tuesday confirmed that former England international Tom Heaton had signed a new deal with the Red Devils.

Tom Heaton, who has taken up a role at England’s training camp for Euro 2024, returned to boyhood club United in 2021 after he left Aston Villa.

The 38-year-old veteran shot-stopper was part of the Red Devils’ youth academy, but he failed to break into the United first team during his first spell at the club.

Heaton is one of Erik ten Hag’s three shot-stopper options at Old Trafford alongside Turkey international Altay Bayindir and Cameroon star Andre Onana.

Bruno Fernandes took to Instagram Stories and posted a heart-warming response to the United shot-stopper signing a new deal with the Red Devils.

“Well deserved, big man,” he wrote, adding a heart emoji.

Heaton has made three appearances since his return to Old Trafford, including making his club debut in 2021 against Young Boys in the Champions League.

Erik ten Hag turned to the ex-Burnley star for the 2022-23 League Cup campaign and played Heaton in the wins against Charlton Athletic and Nottingham Forest.

Speaking on his new contract, Heaton told Manchester United’s official website: “I am delighted to continue my stay at my boyhood club.

“I still feel in great shape and I am ready to offer whatever the squad needs throughout the season ahead.

“In addition to on the pitch, I’m learning so much off it for my next steps, whatever that may be.

“But, first and foremost, I want to push the squad to build on our successes from last season.”
