Manchester United are celebrating reaching the FA Cup final after a weekend win over Brighton on penalties.
It is five years since Manchester United last made the FA Cup final and seven years since we last won it, back in 2016.
Winning the semi-final felt good at the weekend, getting past Brighton in a shootout, especially considering we have lost seven shootouts out of the last eight.
While United are now focusing on the resumption of the Premier League and tomorrow’s game away at Tottenham, the club are still basking in the afterglow of booking a return trip to Wembley.
Bruno Fernandes sends message to Benni McCarthy
Benni McCarthy has been a valuable member of Manchester United’s coaching staff since being hired by Erik ten Hag last summer.
He has been credited with helping to revitalise Marcus Rashford’s form, and the South African is clearly a popular figure behind the scenes.
McCarthy posted a message on his Instagram feed on Wednesday night, expressing his excitement at being part of the United cohort heading back to Wembley for the FA Cup final.
He received a response from Bruno Fernandes, who simply wrote ‘Legend’, in reply.
The FA Cup final keeps United’s season alive even if a top four spot is locked up with a few games to go.
United are looking to secure a domestic cup double, reaching the FA Cup and League Cup finals in the same season for the first time since 1993/94.
In our path are Manchester City, a team we have already beaten once this season. But the last time we faced a Pep Guardiola side at Wembley was in 2011 and it didn’t go too well. Hopefully this time will be more successful.
