Former Manchester United attacker Juan Mata is still capable of ridiculous moments on the football pitch, such as his goal to win the Melbourne derby.
It was 2022 when Juan Mata parted ways with Manchester United after eight years at the club, which saw him become a fan favourite.
Mata was always one of the best players on the pitch at any given moment, exuding quality and class, and he still has it to this day.
He has proven this since moving to the Melbourne Victory, with Mata rolling back the years for the Australian side. Now he’s scored a goal worth remembering.
Who is the most underrated Manchester United player ever?
Juan Mata scores wonderful goal for Melbourne Victory
Mata has been unstoppable since moving to Victory, but his biggest moment for the club happened on Saturday as he played in the Melbourne derby.

As the scoreline read 0-0 in the 20th minute, Mata took matters into his own hands as the City defenders made a sloppy pass that the Spanish legend latched onto.
40 yards out, most would try to start a quick break while the opponents were unsuspecting, but Mata instead chipped the goalkeeper from that range.
The commentator hailed Mata after his goal in the A-League.
“Outstanding. That is outrageous from the Spaniard. A derby goal of the highest order. A moment of magic.”
After this goal, Bruno Fernandes reacted on his Instagram.
What went wrong for Juan Mata at Man United?
He arrived with potential to be the best in the league. Why didn't he reach these levels?
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes reacts to Mata’s incredible goal
Taking to his Instagram story after the game, Fernandes hailed Mata.
“What a player”, Fernandes wrote before posting a similar story with another message. “Special player”, he added.
Then, after David de Gea captioned the goal writing, “I’ve seen this goal before @brunofernandes8”, Fernandes added another comedic message between the group of friends.
“You know I’m his idol and he wants to replicate everything I do.”
This is in relation to when Fernandes scored from distance against Liverpool in 2024, chipping the goalkeeper under Erik ten Hag.
Mata and Fernandes are close friends, with the Portuguese midfielder taking the Spaniard’s number eight shirt when he left the club.
