Bruno Fernandes and Anthony Martial appear to have a strong connection off the pitch as they look to rebuild their partnership on it.

The duo have enjoyed being teammates again on the club’s pre-season tour, with Martial back at the club after his spell on loan at Sevilla.

Martial has seized his opportunity to lead the attack, scoring three goals in four games, and The Mail report he is expected to start United’s opening game of the season in a fortnight’s time.

New manager Erik ten Hag appears to have rejuvenated the Frenchman, and Bruno Fernandes is looking to play his part too.

Bruno Fernandes promises Anthony Martial an assist

Manchester United’s video tour diary has allowed supporters to get a glimpse of the players behind the scenes, and clips from the final ‘flying home’ video featured an exchange between the pair…

Bruno Fernandes: “The man of the tour, the guy who scores loads of goals for us. How was the tour Anthony did you like it?”

Anthony Martial: “It was very good but, you didn’t give me one assist.”

Bruno Fernandes: “You’re right, do you know why, I’m putting everything on the league, first game of the season.”

Anthony Martial: “I like that!”

The pair then smiled and shook hands, and we will wait to see on August 7 if Fernandes’ will deliver on his promise.

Martial’s goals in pre-season were either created by himself, or came from good work from another Portuguese player, Diogo Dalot, who had one assist, and Anthony Elanga flicked on a cross towards Martial for another.

Fernandes and Martial have combined for 12 goals, per Transfermarkt, most memorably in the Manchester derby in 2020 with the striker volleying in his teammate’s chipped free-kick.

United face Brighton in the first game of the season at Old Trafford at 2pm on Sunday August 7.
