Bruno Fernandes meets up with former club Sporting Lisbon ahead of City clash
Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has been pictured catching up with his former Sporting Lisbon teammates.
The Portuguese giants are in Manchester for tonight’s Champions League last-16 second leg against Manchester City.
Ruben Amorin’s side know that turning the tie around is beyond them after Pep Guardiola’s side won 5-0 in Portugal, but he will be keen to ensure his team aren’t on the end of a similar drubbing that Fernandes endured on Sunday.
After Fernandes was part of the Manchester United that were leathered 4-1, it’s highly unlikely that his former club will be asking the Portuguese international for any tips on how to approach the game at the Etihad Stadium.
The Instagram post by Sporting Lisbon translates: “Forever a Lion 💚 Today visited the hotel where our team is staying 👏.”
Just like the rest of the Manchester United team, Fernandes became increasingly stationery as City toyed with United on Sunday.
And in the moments where United’s number 18 did get on the ball he often forced the play trying to make something happen.
United fans will be demanding a response come Saturday when Antonio Conte’s Tottenham come to Old Trafford.
Into his third season with the Reds, Fernandes hasn’t experienced Manchester United failing to qualify for the Champions League.
As things stand, there is a growing possibility that the Red Devils could miss out on a place in Europe’s top club competition.
With 10 league games left, Ralf Rangnick’s side need to put a winning run together especially with Arsenal, who sit one point ahead of us, having three games in-hand.
But the short-term focus has to be on beating Spurs at the Theatre of Dreams on Saturday.
Hopefully United’s Portuguese ‘Magnifico’ can inspire us to a victory which proves to be the turning point in our season.
