Bruno Fernandes jokes about Bryan Mbeumo transfer, latest Man Utd signing excited about first pre-season tour

Manchester United have arrived in the United States for three friendly matches as part of their 2025 pre-season tour.

After Manchester United’s scoreless draw against Leeds in Stockholm last week, Ruben Amorim’s squad has travelled to the United States to take on three more Premier League opponents to prepare for the upcoming campaign, which kicks off next month against Arsenal at Old Trafford.

The US tour will be an opportunity for Amorim to continue implementing his system in the United first-team, which lost the Europa League final to Tottenham and finished 15th in the Premier League last term. There will be three friendly matches and plenty of intense training to allow the players to reach match fitness ahead of the competitive campaign.

It’s also a chance for new signings to familiarise themselves with their new teammates. United have already welcomed three new players to the first team this season, and Amorim will be hoping to add more before the 2025/26 season gets underway.

Matheus Cunha arrived from Wolves as United’s first summer signing, before Diego Leon joined following a pre-arranged deal in January. The latest signing, Bryan Mbeumo, took almost two months to complete, but it was made official by United earlier this week.

First impressions are important and United fans are excited by the signing of Mbeumo.

Frustrations grew around the transfer because it took so long to get over the line, but you can tell by the reaction of Mbeumo’s team-mates they are overjoyed that he has joined the club.

On the flight to the United States, Bruno Fernandes and Joshua Zirkzee recorded a series of videos for MUTV as they caught up with several United first-team members, including new signings Cunha and Mbeumo.

United captain Fernandes couldn’t help but joke about how long it took Mbeumo to complete his summer transfer from Brentford.

“So, we’re going to present the man that everyone was waiting for,” Fernandes said as he pointed the camera towards Mbeumo.

“A long time waiting for you. Are you excited to go on the tour?”

Mbeumo smiled as he replied: “Yeah, very excited.”

The Cameroon international also revealed what he expects from the tour: “Friendly camp. Good people, and I hope we are going to do well.”

Hopefully, Mbeumo can take some of the responsibility from Fernandes next season and United, as an overall team, score more goals.

When can Man Utd fans expect to see Mbeumo in action?

There will be many United fans staying up late on Saturday night to watch Amorim’s side take on West Ham in New Jersey on Saturday night.

It will be the first chance to see Mbeumo in action as United kick off their pre-season tour in the US.

That is, unless Amorim decides to wait to give Mbeumo his first outing in the opening friendly match, but that is unexpected when there are only four games left to prepare for the new season.

The pre-season friendlies will end with David de Gea’s homecoming at Old Trafford, when the esteemed goalkeeper leads his Fiorentina team-mates out against his former club.
