Manchester United produced a stunning late turnaround to beat Manchester City 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

2024 is coming to an end and Ruben Amorim has provided Manchester United fans with some bragging rights.

United headed to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday and fell behind to a rather fortuitous Josko Gvardiol goal.

Amorim appeared to be heading for a third straight Premier League defeat but Amad Diallo had other ideas.

Amad won a penalty for Bruno Fernandes to equalise before the Ivorian won it with a superb strike, sparking wild scenes as United fans celebrated a remarkable win.

Amad made himself the hero late on, writing himself in derby folklore as United picked up an 80th win over City in the process.

Bruno Fernandes praises Manchester United substitute

The headlines will, understandably, go towards Amad and his late heroics to secure a big win for United and Amorim.

This was a team effort though and captain Bruno Fernandes has made that abundantly clear.

Bruno praised Manuel Ugarte’s performance against City and has now paid tribute to a substitute as well.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Bruno noted that defender Victor Lindelof really helped hone coming on as a late substitute.

Lindelof was only on the bench for a matter of minutes but helped United see out the game and secure a 2-1 win.

Bruno hailed the Swede, suggesting that he is good on the ball and provides experience at the back to bring ‘comfort’ to the United side.

Bruno also praised the approach of Amorim, believing that he is showing just how strongly he values everybody in the United squad.

“Victor came in and he helped,” said Bruno. “He gives you comfort, he’s good on the ball, he’s experienced and we count on everyone and I think that’s from the manager also, he’s been showing that he counts on everyone,” he added.

Victor Lindelof in demand

Lindelof helped see out United’s win as he made his first appearance under Amorim.

The 30-year-old is down the pecking order in defence with the likes of Noussair Mazraoui, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez lining up at the back.

Lindelof is now in the final year of his United contract and we would expect to see him move on at the end of the season.

Caught Offside even claim that Lindelof is now wanted by three Premier League clubs – Everton, Newcastle United and West Ham United.

Bruno appreciates Lindelof’s impact but United will be tempted to cash in during the January window before Lindelof leaves for nothing.
