Bruno Fernandes has big ambitions and is not shy about it. The high scoring midfielder is targeting Europe’s top prize this season.
Fernandes, who has 18 goal contributions already this season, wants United to be full of belief after reaching the Champions League knockout stages.
This season has been a difficult one for the Red Devils, yet Fernandes is still hopeful of achieving something meaningful.

The former Sporting star is hopeful United will end the season with a trophy, and is no mood to listen to anybody who says it won’t happen.
Fernandes told the club website: “Of course, in the league it is too far now. We have to be realistic and we have to fight for the top four and being in the Champions League next season. At the same time, fight for the Champions League and the FA Cup.
“I don’t care what people think or can say about us winning the Champions League or the FA Cup. I think we have the chance to win it, the qualities to win it and, most of all, we are in those competitions. Until we are out, we have to believe we can win those competitions.”
Fernandes’ upbeat attitude is what United need right now. United have to believe ahead of a challenging last 16 tie against Atletico Madrid.
United’s number 18 added that his biggest regret at United is last season’s Europa League final and he is sure the Red Devils would win the tie again if the game was replayed. Indeed United won both games against the Spaniards in the recent group stages.
He said: “Obviously, congratulations to Villarreal. They did a really good game and the team that won is always the best one, you can say. But no, obviously, that was one I would like to repeat. I’m sure if we played that one again, we would win.”

United need to step up for the big games against Atletico, and Cristiano Ronaldo’s presence means the team are unlikely to suffer any stage fright.
The team’s first match back is against Middlesbrough on Friday night in the FA Cup fourth round. Winning the Old Trafford tie will move United into the competition’s last 16.
Winning a trophy really would put a shine on a difficult season for United, but there is a lot of work to do. Fernandes’ comments show self-belief, defiance, and focus on putting it right. Right now, that’s good to hear.
