Bruno Fernandes comments on Cristiano Ronaldo leaving Manchester United

Red Devils attacking midfielder Bruno Fernandes has commented on Cristiano Ronaldo leaving Manchester United in Portugal’s latest World Cup press conference.

The twenty-time league champions announced yesterday that the 37-year-old and the club had mutually agreed to terminate his contract with immediate effect.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is probably the most famous unemployed person on the planet, and it’ll be interesting to see what’s next in the life of Cristiano Ronaldo.

But his short-term focus is going to be fixated on firing his beloved Portugal to World Cup glory in Qatar.

In what seems all but certain to be Ronaldo’s last chance to win the World Cup, United’s former number seven will be desperate to get his hands on the biggest trophy in football, which has so far alluded him.

Following his explosive two-part interview with Piers Morgan in which Ronaldo declared that he felt “betrayed” by the club and that he had no respect for Erik ten Hag, there was no way back for the former Juventus marksman, and he leaves the club he supposedly adores without getting a lucrative pay-off.

Ahead of Portugal’s opening World Cup game against Ghana tomorrow, Fernandes was inevitably bombarded with questions about his former United teammate.

But with United’s number eight keen to keep the harmony high in the Selecao camp, the 28-year-old provided a respectful response.

The former Sporting Libson captain said: “He [Ronaldo] didn’t tell me about his decision. It’s a personal decision and it concerns him and his family. We haven’t talked about it.

“Everyone here is focused on the goal. National team and World Cup.

“I don’t feel uncomfortable. I don’t have to pick a side.

“It was a dream come true to play with Cristiano (at United), but nothing lasts forever.”
