Bruno Fernandes believes that Manchester United could only rescue their season if the team can achieve one key accomplishment.

Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United picked up a 4-2 victory against Newport County at Rodney Parade but it was certainly not a routine victory for the Red Devils.

Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo struck in the first half before the Welsh side brought the game back to 2-2 before Antony and Rasmus Hojlund won the game for the Red Devils.

The season has been a very disappointing one for Ten Hag and the Red Devils, with the FA Cup the only competition that United could win this campaign.

It seems this opinion of the importance of the competition is matched by the United captain who will hope to guide his teammates to their 13th FA Cup victory.

“We have to understand that the FA Cup is our chance to win a trophy and we have to give everything to get into the final step by step,” Fernandes told the BBC.

“Game by game but we know that to make the season look not as bad as it has been, we have to try to win this trophy because it is important for us, we have been in the final last year, unfortunately, we did not get the trophy.

“We know how much the FA Cup means for our fans, our club, for the country so we know how important it is and it’s important for us too. We want to get into the final and win.”

With the Red Devils already out of the Champions League and the Carabao Cup, and their Premier League position leaving much to be desired, England’s oldest cup competition is the Red Devils’ last hope.

Fernandes key for the Red Devils

In the previous round against Wigan Athletic, the Portuguese midfielder was one of the club’s best players and once again he was fantastic against Newport.

His creativity in the final third was once again brilliant and he was proving to be key for the Red Devils and made one key pass during the game.

Similar to the end of Louis Van Gaal’s reign at Old Trafford, you wonder if an FA Cup victory in the Summer heat at Wembley Stadium could well be a nice way to end Ten Hag’s reign at Old Trafford.
