Manchester United have now confirmed the signing of Danish playmaker Christian Eriksen on a free transfer.

It has been a long process between when it became clear that United were the frontrunners to sign the former Brentford man and the official announcement.

But it has been made now, just hours after United won their second match of pre-season, beating Melbourne Victory 4-1.

The Times report Erik ten Hag allowed Eriksen to train at Ajax in early 2022 when he was let go by Inter Milan, who were unable to play him because he was fitted with a cardioverter defibrillator.

Eriksen to United is now confirmed

As per the club website, Eriksen said: “Manchester United is a special club, and I cannot wait to get started. I have had the privilege of playing at Old Trafford many times but to do it in the red shirt of United will be an amazing feeling.

“I have seen Erik’s work at Ajax and know the level of detail and preparation that he and his staff put into every day. It is clear that he is a fantastic coach.

“Having spoken with him and learned more about his vision and the way he wants the team to play, I am even more excited for the future.

“I still have major ambitions in the game, there is a huge amount that I know I can achieve, and this is the perfect place to continue my journey.”

It remains to be seen how Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes will fit into the same United team, but the Portuguese playmaker wasted no time in welcoming the Dane to the club, on Instagram.

Club captain Harry Maguire did the same, having made his first appearance of pre-season in that victory in Australia.

Eriksen has signed a contract until June 2025 and it to be hoped that by that point, the Ten Hag revolution is in full swing and trophies are back at Old Trafford.
