Manchester United’s vice-captain Bruno Fernandes has regularly this season been criticised for his on field attitude.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Fernandes admitted he sometimes crosses the line, but insists he is never trying to be disrespectful.
The Portuguese midfielder explained, “I think, obviously, that sometimes I do go over the line, I know that. It can happen in a game and it’s difficult to control the emotions but I never try to be disrespectful.”
Fernandes continues, “We are all competitive, we all want to win and I just think that the way I play, the way I feel the game, the passion I have for the game is the way I feel better and the way I can give the most to my team and to my club.”
United’s number eight has 10 goals and 14 assists in all competitions this season. However, his performances have been even better than these numbers suggest.
He has also worn the captains armband for the majority of the season given Harry Maguire’s demotion to the bench.
The criticism of Bruno
Gary Neville branded Fernandes a ‘disgrace’, in the aftermath of last months awful defeat against Liverpool at Anfield.
United’s top assister for the season also commented on this, and other pundits criticism of his actions.
“We all know the pundits have to say something, they have to give their work and most bad things they say we just have to live with that.”
He added that the only opinion he regards, is that of his teammates and coach.
“For me it is about my teammates being okay and happy with that and whenever they are not I like them to tell me so I can calm myself down.”
While it appears Fernandes complains a lot, it is easy to see why. The controversial yellow card he received on Thursday means he misses the second-leg.
