Brentford midfielder Saman Ghoddos has explained why he admires Manchester United’s “amazing” summer signing Christian Eriksen.

United’s number 14 opted against re-signing with the Bees in the summer and instead joined Erik ten Hag’s Red Devils on a free transfer following the expiry of his short-term contract with Thomas Frank’s side.

The 30-year-old’s arrival at the Brentford Community Stadium in January proved the catalyst in the west London outfit beating the drop in their first season in the Premier League.

After suffering a cardiac arrest representing Denmark at last summer’s European Championships, Eriksen’s return to top level football has been nothing short of remarkable.

While Ghoddos’ game time with Brentford was impacted following the arrival of the influential Dane, the Iran international has explained the impact training and playing alongside the midfield maestro had on him.

“It was amazing,” Ghoddos says in an interview with The Athletic.

“I was privileged to be on the same pitch as him in training. I tried to learn as much as I could because this is the player I was watching when I was playing in the lower leagues.

“He was in my position and the things he was doing inspired me. So the first day in training I tried to mark him wherever he went, but he was always a couple of steps before me. An amazing player and an even better person.”

Since making the move to Old Trafford, Eriksen has one goal and six assists to his name from 20 appearances.

The former Brentford playmaker scored his first goal for the twenty-time league champions on Sunday in United’s dramatic 2-1 win against Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Both Eriksen and Ghoddos will be in Qatar for this winter’s World Cup.
