Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers is “hopeful” that James Maddison will be fit to face Manchester United on Thursday night.

In contrast, the Foxes come into the clash off the back of three straight top-flight defeats and sit bottom of the Premier League with one point from four games.

After missing Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to ten-man Chelsea, the former Celtic and Liverpool manager Rodgers hopes that his chief playmaker Maddison is available against the twenty-time league champions.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, the Northern Irishman said: “We’ve had most of the guys in training and available. Maddison we’re hopeful. We’ll see how he is tomorrow.”

With the summer transfer window closing at 11pm on Thursday, Leicester remain the only Premier League side not to sign a player.

With Wesley Fofana closing in on a big-money move to Chelsea, the Foxes rebuffed bids from Newcastle United for Maddison this summer.

The former Norwich City man, who has one cap for England to his name, has been directly involved in three (two goals, one assist) of Leicester’s six Premier League goals so far this season.

The 25-year-old hasn’t scored against the Red Devils in seven appearances, but his return come Thursday night could be a big boost for a seemingly beleaguered Leicester City side.

Manchester United were beaten 4-2 by Leicester at the King Power Stadium in October when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was in charge.

But there is every chance that only three of United’s starting line-up that lost at Leicester under the Norwegian will be in Ten Hag’s starting XI come 7pm on Thursday (De Gea, Fernandes, Sancho).
