Brazilian says Sir Alex Ferguson made him want to sign for Man Utd ‘immediately’

Andreas Pereira was once a regular part of the Manchester United squad under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer before finally departing the club last summer.

The Brazilian midfielder featured predominantly under Solskjaer after the midfielder completed his move to the club in 2015.

After he played under Jose Mourinho and made his debut under Louis van Gaal, Andreas Pereira would often feature as a number 10 under the Norwegian manager but often struggled to influence games how Bruno Fernandes does so often nowadays.

Sir Alex Ferguson has always had a big impact on the players he has worked with but even after his retirement in 2013, the Scotsman still leaves a lasting memory to the players he crosses paths with.

Speaking to Dutch outlet Nieuwsblad, Pereira was almost in awe of the iconic Scottish manager who won United 13 Premier League titles as well as two Champions League titles, when the pair met.

“During my first pre-season tour – at that moment I thought I wouldn’t like Ferguson at all – at the club we arrived in the dining room and there he was.

“The scout from the club who accompanied us introduced us to each other. Sir Alex, this is Andreas. Yes, yes, said Ferguson. I know him well. He looked at me and said: ‘Hello Andreas, there will always be a place in our team for a Brazilian’.”

Ferguson’s lasting impact

The Brazilian midfielder, now at Fulham following United’s decision to part with Pereira, has had a decent start to his career at Craven Cottage.

Pereira also spoke about the impact Ferguson made on him and just how keen he was to sign the contract with the Old Trafford club.

“I immediately wanted to stay there. I would have signed anything,” Pereira revealed. “(It’s) So funny that my father told me not to be too enthusiastic because of course there were still negotiations to be done. We can still laugh about it afterward, what a moment.”

Some players never make it at Old Trafford but Pereira’s United career will always be one he looks back on with fond memories.
