Hannibal Mejbri‘s performances for Birmingham City in the last couple of games have been “phenomenal”, according to Blues boss John Eustace.

Having started Birmingham’s three prior Championship games, the 19-year-old dropped down to the bench for Saturday’s 2-1 defeat against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.

Manchester United’s talented youngster came off the bench just after the hour mark when Eustace’s men were trailing 2-0, but the Tunisian couldn’t inspire a full comeback.

Since moving to St Andrew’s on a season-long loan, the former Monaco wonderkid has featured in all ten of Birmingham’s matches following his arrival at the end of August.

Eustace explained that United’s number 46 started on the bench because he wants to utilise his full squad during the hectic run of fixtures.

But Birmingham’s manager was full of praise for the 18-time Tunisia international and revealed that Hannibal has “broken records for total distance” ran in some of the matches he’s started in.

Speaking via BirminghamLive, Eustace said: “The way he has played in the last couple of games has been phenomenal. He has broken records for total distance, all that kind of stuff. It was important we also used the squad.

“[Juninho] Bacuna came in today and did well and Hanni came on for that last half hour and was very good.

“I have said it is a squad game, everyone will be used, we are certainty stretched at the moment but it’s important everyone gets that opportunity to play and feel wanted.”

The all-action midfielder will no doubt be hoping that Eustace restores him to Birmingham’s starting line-up for Friday night’s clash against league leaders Queens Park Rangers at St Andrew’s, which will likely see Hannibal come up against his Manchester United teammate Ethan Laird who is spending the 2022-23 campaign at Loftus Road.
