Manchester United’s forward coach Benni McCarthy has been praised for his role in ‘reawakening’ the Red Devils under the tutelage of Erik ten Hag.

The 45-year-old was appointed as the Red Devils’ forward coach at the end of July and has become a key part of Ten Hag’s coaching staff.

Following his arrival at Old Trafford, the 80-time former South Africa international became the third South African to represent Manchester United.

Prior to becoming United’s latest addition to the coaching staff, McCarthy was assistant manager at Belgian Jupiler Pro League side Sint-Truiden before returning to his homeland to manage Cape Town City and AmaZulu FC.

South African journalist Robert Marawa has praised McCarthy for the positive impact he’s had on the likes of Marcus Rashford.

Marawa wrote on Twitter: “Respect! The reawakening of the Manchester United front-line under the tutelage of our Benni McCarthy. Making the opposition ‘nervous!’”

Alongside Ten Hag and other members of United’s coaching staff, the former Porto, Blackburn Rovers and West Ham United marksman has helped repair what was a toxic and fragile atmosphere within the Manchester United dressing room.

Rashford endured the worst season of his career last time out with United’s number ten only managing five goals across all competitions.

But the 51-time England international, who looks a man reborn since Ten Hag took the reins, has 16 goals to his name already this season and has scored in United’s last seven games.

McCarthy, who has undoubtedly helped bring the feel-good factor back to Carrington, has been tipped to land a managerial position in England.

SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt feels McCarthy can become a manager in Europe after his current role with the twenty-time league champions.

“Look at Benni [McCarthy]’s situation now, he has one foot to get into a coaching job in England if he leaves there,” said Hunt as per Phakaaathi.

“He can get a chance at a decent level and what helps is the playing career, it can help.”
