Wayne Rooney namechecked Benjamin Sesko amid his powerful analysis of Michael Carrick’s reign as Manchester United interim head coach at Old Trafford so far.
Benjamin Sesko has not started in Michael Carrick’s first five Premier League matches since his appointment as Manchester United interim manager last month.
Benjamin Sesko is averaging a goal every 48 minutes over his last six appearances
Should Sesko be starting more games for United?
However, the 22-year-old Slovenian forward has had a meaningful impact for the Red Devils when he has come off the bench under United legend Carrick.
Sesko ensured that Man Utd sealed all three points against Fulham earlier this month, with the Red Devils striker netting a sensational injury-time winner at Old Trafford.
Fast-forward from United’s 3-2 Premier League win over Fulham and Sesko came to Carrick’s rescue in the 1-1 draw against West Ham at the London Stadium last week.

Wayne Rooney singles out Benjamin Sesko alongside several of Michael Carrick’s key first-team Man Utd players
Benjamin Sesko climbed off the bench in the second half of Manchester United’s encounter with West Ham and scored a stunning injury-time equaliser.
Carrick dropped Sesko to the bench in recent weeks after choosing to use Bryan Mbeumo as his lone forward for his attacking set-up for the Red Devils.
Speaking on The Overlap, Wayne Rooney insisted that Man Utd summer signing Sesko is not the only player to have been ‘impacted’ by Carrick’s influence.
Prove me wrong: Michael Carrick has already shown enough to become permanent Man United manager.
13 points from 15 would be title winning form over a full season…
The 40-year-old legendary former United and England striker also singled out the likes of Matheus Cunha, Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez for their roles.
“We’ve seen the impact [that Carrick has had],” Rooney said.
“Cunha, when he come on in the first couple of games [and] had the impact. We’ve seen him run back and work hard.
“Sesko [is] coming on [and] having an impact. Harry Maguire looks back to the player we once thought he was. Martinez [as well], he’s [Carrick] having an impact on the whole squad, the whole football club.”

Wayne Rooney on Michael Carrick’s influence at Man Utd after his appointment as interim head coach
Rooney insisted that former United teammate Carrick is the perfect example of when clubs overlook the talent at home and instead look abroad for their solutions.
“And I think sometimes we’re quick to overlook what’s right there in front of you and say, ‘Oh, we’ve got this manager from Turkey or from Spain who’s going to come in and do this when actually they’ve no interest in the football club.’
“At least this will give the foundation for the club to keep building, whether in two, three, four years’ time kind of goes or moves on, the infrastructure will be back in that football club. That’s right.”
Man Utd are fourth in the Premier League table under Carrick and the Red Devils will visit Goodison Park on 23rd February for their next clash against Everton.
