A decision must be made whether Fred or Christian Eriksen starts the FA Cup final at Wembley.
A large part of Manchester United’s team for the FA Cup final at Wembley picks itself, as you would hope at this late stage of the season.
But with a squad as talented as United’s, there are always a few question marks. One of these is in midfield.
While Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes are locked in starters, there is a little uncertainty over who should be the third midfielder.
FA Cup selection dilemma
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has to choose between Christian Eriksen and Fred, while Scott McTominay is another alternative.
Eriksen has been the more regular starter, especially lately, but Fred’s excellent performance against Fulham at the weekend was a reminder of his quality.
Former United goalkeeper Ben Foster believes Eriksen should opt for Fred to start.
He told the United Stand : “That’s the big one. It’s 50/50. You need tenacity and having someone who can run. a dog.
“Eriksen is not going to see much of the ball. [You must] work as much as you can, get a set piece, a flash of brilliance.
“Eriksen is not going to get time to dictate play. Bruno will do that. That will help Bruno out. The other two around him can sit in.”
The other option available to Erik ten Hag is to start for Eriksen and Fred. He did this in the Manchester derby in January.
Jadon Sancho was not available for this particular fixture. He has returned to form recently and could play a key role in attack.
This is preferable to playing Fernandes out wide to accommodate both Eriksen and Fred. It’s likely Ten Hag will have to pick between them – although Anthony Martial’s injury may provide more space if Marcus Rashford moves to centre-forward.
