BBC pundit claims Man Utd player looked uncomfortable v Palace

Manchester United ace Sofyan Amrabat has been branded a ‘fish out of water’ after his performance against Crystal Palace.

United beat Palace 3-0 in the EFL Cup in midweek and were desperate to build on that with a Premier League victory over the Eagles.

That didn’t happen though as United slipped to another Premier League defeat with Joachim Andersen firing the only goal of the game.

To win twice in just a few days and then lose gain just means that United have lost the small momentum recently picked up.

It’s now back to the drawing board for Erik ten Hag, but he doesn’t have long to reflect on this one with a home clash against Galatasaray coming up on Tuesday.

Sofyan Amrabat criticised amid Manchester United defeat

United are suffering a real injury crisis at the back, especially on the left side of defence.

Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are out injured with loan signing Sergio Reguilon now on the treatment table too.

Diogo Dalot would be an option there but Aaron Wan-Bissaka is out of action too, meaning Ten Hag had to go with Sofyan Amrabat at left back.

The Moroccan is a midfielder by trade but he did well at left back against Palace in midweek, so Ten Hag tried it again on Saturday.

The results maybe weren’t quite as impressive this time, with Amrabat looking uncomfortable and giving away the free kick from which Palace scored.

Pundit Chris Sutton certainly wasn’t impressed during his punditry duty for BBC Radio Five Live, suggesting that Amarabt didn’t look at all comfortable on Saturday.

Sutton added that Amrabat looked like ‘a fish out of water’, highlighting a disappointing display from United’s deadline day signing.

“Given away a free kick, being driven back towards his own goal by Ayew and he palms it, a keeper would be proud of that,” said Sutton. “He’s not looked comfortable in that left back position today, like a fish out of water,” he added.

Amrabat may need to keep playing at left back

Those injury problems so no sign of easing right now with Reguilon likely to be out until after the international break.

None of the other aforementioned defenders are ready to return and United are desperately lacking options at left back.

That means Amrabat may well be forced to continue in that position in order to do a job for the team.

It may not be pretty at times but United don’t have many other options right now and Amrabat will hopefully see his performances become a little more consistent over time.
