Bastian Schweinsteiger suggests Man Utd had a midfielder who was even better than Kevin De Bruyne

World Cup and Champions League winner Bastian Schweinsteiger certainly has the credentials to judge what a good midfielder looks like.

The German legend spent the twilight years of his career at Manchester United, with Bastian Schweinsteiger joining the Red Devils in 2015 and leaving in 2017.

Ultimately, Schweinsteiger flopped at United, but since his retirement, he has opened up on the cruel treatment he received at the club, especially from manager Jose Mourinho.

Schweinsteiger was an outcast under Mourinho, but it hasn’t stopped him from continuing to support United after leaving the club.

During his two-year spell at United, Schweinsteiger shared the Old Trafford dressing room with some huge talents.

Schweinsteiger wished to play more with Paul Pogba at United, and he has been outspoken about believing that the squad under Mourinho was good enough to win titles.

But in a recent TikTok video, it was United legend Paul Scholes who Schweinsteiger was asked to rank, and he put him above former Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne.

Scholes only made eighth in Schweinsteiger’s rankings, with Zinedine Zidane at the top of his list.

Bastian Schweinsteiger is a huge Paul Scholes admirer

Schweinsteiger missed out on the chance to play alongside Scholes at United, with the English midfielder retiring two years before the German made his move to Old Trafford.

But upon his arrival in Manchester, Schweinsteiger spoke extremely highly of Scholes in a club interview.

“I have some players who I was always looking for, to see how they were playing, and of course, Scholes was one of them.

“I like his kind of style, how he played and it was also nice to see him once in Munich when there was an all-star game between Bayern Munich and Manchester United.

“I took his shirt on that occasion but that one was for me! It is at my house in Munich. Not in Manchester, because I do not have a home in Manchester yet!”
