Bailly can offer reminder of his quality when Ivory Coast face England

Manchester United defender Eric Bailly is gearing up to face England at Wembley tonight in a friendly international clash.

Bailly started Ivory Coast’s clash with France last week, but he was substituted with an injury on 68 minutes before watching his teammates slip to a stoppage time defeat.

Reported United target Aurélien Tchouameni, scored that gutting late goal and Bailly could well come against another prospective Red Devils player tonight.

The Athletic produced a report yesterday, detailing United’s interest in England captain Harry Kane, no matter who the new manager is.

The fee for the Tottenham talisman is apparently likely to top £100 million, despite the fact he will have just two years left on his contract come the summer.

If Bailly could keep Kane quiet, he would offer Ralf Rangnick a reminder of his quality going into the latter stages of the season.

Bailly could also share a pitch with his club captain Harry Maguire, and if his performance compares favourably with the England defender, that could make an impression on Rangnick too.

Ivory Coast took France all the way last week, coming minutes away from an eye-catching result and have a chance to make a similar impact tonight.

Bailly needs to overcome the injury which forced him off last week, first of all.

It would provoke a rolling of eyes across the country if the team news filters through and Bailly is ruled out of facing England with yet another injury.

But if he plays and gets to his best level against Kane and the other talented English forwards Gareth Southgate has to choose from, it could salvage the end of his season at club level.
