Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim used Diogo Dalot and three other Red Devils players to make a key point about the Premier League club’s 2025-26 season.
Diogo Dalot has had a mixed season at Old Trafford and Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim has been keen to see more from the 26-year-old Portuguese full-back.
IF Amad, Bryan Mbeumo and Noussair Mazraoui aren’t available… who replaces them in each position?🤔
The Manchester United defender has found himself playing as an inverted wing-back for large periods of the 2025-26 Premier League campaign under Amorim.
United manager Amorim has been alternating between Dalot and Patrick Dorgu as the left wing-back choice in his tactical system at the Premier League club.
Amorim, much like he has done with Dalot, has put pressure on Patrick Dorgu to show more as a wing-back in the Red Devils’ performances this season.

Ruben Amorim says there has been an ‘issue’ with Diogo Dalot and connected it with three other Man Utd players
Diogo Dalot started Manchester United’s 4-1 win over Wolves last Monday and the Portugal international made way late in the second half at the Molineux.
Ruben Amorim withdrew the Portugal international and Patrick Dorgu came on in Dalot’s place in the 84th minute of United’s away trip to face Wolves.
Speaking ahead of United’s clash against Bournemouth, Amorim was asked about his decision to constantly change his backline during matches in the 2025-26 season.
Can you name this former Manchester United player?🤔
Every fan will know him…👀
The former Sporting CP coach defended his actions by singling out United defender Dalot alongside the likes of Ayden Heaven, Noussair Mazraoui and Harry Maguire.
“Sometimes it’s a little bit of bad luck,” Amorim said, as per Manchester United’s official website.
“Ayden [Heaven] was suffering and [asked] us to change. Nous [Mazraoui] had that knock and asked us and was talking about that.
“Diogo [Dalot] is a defender, not a centre-back, but had an issue. Harry Maguire sometimes has an issue.”
Ruben Amorim’s clear-cut position on shuffling the Man Utd backline in the 2025-26 Premier League season
Amorim held his pre-match press conference at the Carrington training complex last Friday ahead of United’s Premier League encounter with Bournemouth on Monday.
The United head coach insisted that his reason for shaking up the backline is not all dependent on injuries, with other times coming down to pure tactical changes.
Will Manchester United end the four game winless run against Bournemouth?😳
Back to back 3-0 defeats at Old Trafford to the Cherries… can Ruben Amorim break this curse?
“Sometimes it is that the situation occurs a lot of times [injuries],” he added.
“So sometimes it’s a tactical issue because I believe that those are the guys that have to start all the plays and where the quality comes from.
“But a lot of times also we need to change because of the physical aspect.”
Bournemouth will now travel to Old Trafford and United’s latest Premier League clash is slated for 8pm UK time on Monday evening.
