Ayden Heaven was the first Manchester United player to acknowledge Amad Diallo’s heartbreak following the Ivory Coast’s elimination from the World Cup.

Tuesday night ended in disappointment for Amad Diallo.

Not only was the Manchester United winger overlooked in Emerse Faé’s starting line-up, but Amad’s impactful substitute cameo included a goal, yet still wasn’t enough to guide Les Elephants into the last 16.

Norway won the match 2-1, thanks to a decisive goal from Man City’s Erling Haaland in the final minutes leading up to stoppage time.

Amad Diallo reacts as Ivory Coast’s World Cup journey ends

It was the Ivory Coast’s first time qualifying for the knockout phase of a World Cup, but they won’t see that as a silver lining right now.

Amad’s performance after coming off the bench before the hour mark suggests Faé made a mistake not starting the United star.

Not only did Amad bring a creative spark to the team, but he also scored and made a goal-line clearance shortly after coming on.

Amad took to Instagram after the match, sharing a photo of himself lying on the turf with his shirt covering his face, accompanied by a broken heart emoji in the caption.

This quickly prompted a supportive message from his United teammate, Ayden Heaven, who has had the summer off to recharge his batteries ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

Heaven replied: “Goat bro,” along with a heart emoji.

Amad now has the opportunity to rest up before returning to United later this month for pre-season.

Amad Diallo can hold his head high

Although Amad will feel that the Ivory Coast’s World Cup journey ended prematurely, the 23-year-old can be proud of how he performed at the tournament.

It was Amad’s first World Cup, and he scored two goals in four appearances.

Interestingly, Amad’s two goals came in games in which he was brought on as a substitute.

The winger served his country well and should return to United later this summer with a spring in his step.
