Axel Tuanzebe will leave Manchester United this summer, says Fabrizio Romano

Axel Tuanzebe will leave Manchester United this summer, says journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Romano says a decision has been made to let Tuanzebe leave, along with Eric Bailly, which he previously reported.

He also claims Aaron Wan-Bissaka could leave, while Diogo Dalot has a ‘good chance’ to stay.

He wrote on Twitter: “Both Eric Bailly and Axel Tuanzebe are set to leave Manchester United this summer – decision made. #MUFC Diogo Dalot’s expected to stay at Manchester United this summer, Aaron Wan-Bissaka has chances to leave waiting for new proposals – as reported yesterday.

‘Tuanzebe will leave’

Axel Tuanzebe did not have a good 2021/22 season. He went on loan to Aston Villa in August, where he started only six Premier League games.

This turned out to be the better of two loan spells. He pushed for a move to Napoli in January, where he started only one match, and played just 10 minutes in Serie A.

The past season was set up as a ‘make or break’ campaign for Tuanzebe, and it appears to have been the latter.

He entered the campaign as fifth choice defender, and probably would have ended it sixth behind Phil Jones.

Even with Jones and Bailly expected to leave, there is no room for Tuanzebe as fourth choice.

United are expected to bring in a new centre-back, while Teden Mengi can also take his place in the squad. And being a back-up should no longer interest Tuanzebe either.

After playing just 727 minutes of football across the past season, Tuanzebe needs to go somewhere where he can play.

The switch to Italy was a bold move, but Napoli were the wrong club for him, as the opportunities simply were not there. He was even left out of their Europa League squad. Injuries also contributed to his lack of game time.

The 24-year-old has potential, but by now, he should have got closer to fulfilling it. Manchester United can wait no more, and nor can he. It is time for Tuanzebe to move on, and if United can get around £10 million for him, it will be good business.
