Lyon striker Moussa Dembele is emerging as potential target for Manchester United this summer
The Sun report United are considering a £40 million move for the forward.
Dembele only signed for Lyon last summer from Celtic, where he spent two seasons after signing from Fulham.
At just 22, he has 87 career goals to his name already.
Expensive, but buying early
This could be an astute deal for United, even at £40 million.
Dembele’s price tag is only going to rise if he remains at Lyon for another season.
In his first year at the club, Dembele scored 17 goals, after joining on deadline day.
He is a future France international and potential partner for Kylian Mbappe. Once he breaks into Les Bleus line-up, his valuation will soar.
£40 million is excellent value for a player of his quality and potential.
Dembele is quicker and more mobile than United striker Romelu Lukaku, who could be forced out by his arrival.
He would better suit Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s preferred style of play, and experience playing under Brendan Rodgers at Celtic will help him out.
Dembele has quick feet, excellent technique, and an eye for goal. He could well be superior to Marcus Rashford. Together, the pair would present a real headache for defences.
Risen to every challenge
Dembele has surpassed expectations in his career so far. At Fulham as a teenager, doubts were cast whether he could score in the Championship.
He showed he could, by scoring 17 goals in 2015/16.
At Celtic, even as a young player, he responded to the pressure of leading the line and delivered in big matches, scoring against Rangers in Old Firm games repeatedly, including a hat-trick.
At Lyon he has fought off tough competition to establish himself in the side, scoring in Ligue 1 and the Champions League.
United should be confident that Dembele could rise to the challenge of starring at Old Trafford next season.
