Manchester United head into the international break sitting seventh in the Premier League table under Ruben Amorim – but how does that compare to the performances and stats during the last campaign?
“He’ll turn the reds around” is really coming to fruition for Ruben Amorim at the moment at Old Trafford. His side are unbeaten in five games, and now the international break looms, giving them time to regroup and plan for the rest of the season.
But it didn’t exactly start well. A miserable beginning to the campaign had Amorim’s future at Manchester United firmly in the balance, with shockingly poor performances against the likes of Manchester City, Fulham and Brentford.

So, with this, let’s have a glance at Manchester United’s form from last season compared to that of the 25/26 campaign.
Premier League record, position, goals scored and conceded
Manchester United currently sit 7th in the Premier League in the 25/26 campaign, whereas last season, following the dismissal of Erik ten Hag, Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side sat in 13th.
The Red Devils have one more victory, the same number of draws, and one fewer loss.
As for goals scored, this is the biggest variable. Amorim’s side this season have scored 19 times in the Premier League, whereas a struggling United attack in the last campaign could only manage 12.
Subsequently, United have three more points than the year prior, and sit six places higher in the top-flight table.
| Season | W | D | L | Goals (F:A) | +/- | Points | League Position | Manager |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2025/26 | 5 | 3 | 3 | 19:18 | +1 | 18 | 7 | Ruben Amorim |
| 2024/25 | 4 | 3 | 4 | 12:12 | 0 | 15 | 13 | Ruud van Nistelrooy |
What about cup competitions?
Of course, United suffered a bitter defeat to Grimsby Town in the EFL Cup under Amorim’s tenure this season, meaning they crashed out of the tournament at the first time of asking.
Quite the opposite, last season, with Ten Hag’s side thumping Barnsley 7-0 at Old Trafford to progress. Van Nistelrooy then took charge as they hosted Leicester, again, another cup thumping with a 5-2 scoreline.

Alongside this, United had European football to worry about. United’s 24/25 campaign in the Europa League started hosting Twente, with the second fixture a 3-3 stunning draw at Porto.
Next up was a 1-1 draw away to Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbache, followed by a home win against Facundo Pellistri’s side, POAK Thessaloniki, taking place on the 7th November.
United also played in the Community Shield 2024, losing on penalties to bitter rivals Manchester City.
Who was Manchester United’s top goalscorer? (All competitions)
- 24/25 – Alejandro Garnacho (6)
- 25/26 – Bryan Mbeumo (6)
Who was the player of the campaign so far?
There was a case for, remarkably, all of Marcus Rashford, Christian Eriksen and Garnacho for the player of the campaign up until this point last season. In 25/26, surely Bryan Mbeumo takes the crown.
Conclusion – Are Manchester United in a better position?
Absolutely. With the momentum building in the league, plus Amorim’s system and ideologies finally starting to take shape, it’s evident United are in a much better place than they were 12 months prior.
How would you rate Manchester United’s season after 11 Premier League games?
The international break has come at a good time. Five games unbeaten, a wide-open Premier League, and a chance to look ahead to the remainder of the campaign.
When club football does return, Manchester United host Everton on Monday, the 24th of November, where the Red Devils will look to make it six unbeaten in all comps.
