Antony tells Erik ten Hag to call his agents after being quizzed over Manchester United move

Manchester United spent a lot of time trying to sign Brazil winger Antony from Ajax earlier this summer. An asking price of £70 million [The Times] appears to have put United off.

Antony has had a strong start to the season with Ajax, showing Erik ten Hag what he was missing with a dazzling display in a 6-1 win at the weekend.

He has two goals and two assists in three matches to begin the season, and after the weekend victory, Antony was asked about Manchester United.

Antony insisted he was happy at Ajax, but also invited Erik ten Hag to reach out to his agents.

Antony tells Erik ten Hag to call his agents

Antony spoke with Voetbal Primeur after the game when reporters asked him about the Manchester United manager.

He said: “I learned a lot from him. When he left, I sent him a message to thank him personally. I can certainly build on what he taught me.”

The 22-year-old was asked what would happen if he received a call from Ten Hag about signing for Manchester United.

He said: “I have no idea, he has to discuss that with my agents. I focus on the here and now. What comes, that comes, we’ll see.

“At the moment I’m comfortable here. I love this country and I feel at home here.

“I do everything for this club every day, every minute, every second. When I’m not playing, I enjoy the city and the beach. I have come to love the city and club.”

Ajax’s fear was that Antony could go on strike to try and force a move. It no longer appears they have to worry about this. He has too much admiration for the Dutch side to leave that way.

While Antony invites Ten Hag to speak with his agents, this is probably a situation the manager can have no effect on.

The decision over the player’s move comes down to finances, and it seems like United won’t be paying Ajax’s asking price.

The Eindhoven Dagblad has reported Erik ten Hag has already contacted PSV forward Cody Gakpo over a move, so the United boss may already have switched his focus elsewhere.
