Manchester United winger Antony has shown his support for Brazil teammate Richarlison after a racial abuse incident in the country’s friendly this week.
A fan at the stadium in Paris threw a banana at Richarlison as he celebrated his goal in Brazil’s 5-1 victory over Tunisia, Sky Sports reported.
Antony sent a message which read: “My brother, I’m in this with you and I will always be!!! Let’s fight together, win together!!”
Tottenham forward Richarlison had posted: “As long as they stay “blah blah blah” and don’t punish, it will continue like this, happening every day and everywhere. No time bro!”
Rio Ferdinand also voices support
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand had also spoken out on the unacceptable actions and demanded a stronger crackdown from football authorities.
Richarlison responded to comment that he feels it is a losing battle until real punishments are handed out.
Battling discrimination is a topic Antony feels strongly about, he recently spoke out to show support for Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr amid racially motivated criticism in Spain over his celebrations.
He wrote: “We are who we are and we are so proud of it!! Always with you, my brother!!”
Antony is now back at Manchester United preparing for the weekend’s match with City. He was pictured at Carrington on Wednesday afternoon.
He was a substitute in both of Brazil’s matches and should be fresh to start if called upon on Sunday.
