Antony has responded to the statement from Manchester United to delay his return to the club.

Manchester United issued a statement early this afternoon regarding Brazilian winger Antony. The statement suggested that Antony would be delaying his return until further notice in order to address the allegations against him.

The winger is accused of attacking his former girlfriend Gabriela Cavallin. Antony responded on social media stating he denies all of the claims.

Today he issued yet another response, this time directly following the club statement to re-iterate what’s already been said.

Antony’s response to club statement

The response from Antony played out like so:

“I have agreed with United to take a period of absence while I address the allegations made against me”

“This was a mutual decision”.

“I want to reiterate my innocence of the things I have been accused of, I will fully cooperate with the police.”

What do we think?

We think, ultimately, this is sensible for both Antony and the club. The decision to give him a period of absence so he can deal with the problem directly without any distractions is a wise one.

United obviously need to be so careful with how they handle this, with the absolutely horrible Mason Greenwood just becoming only just beginning to fade away.

The sad reality however is the chance that all these accusations are true and it will mean United have a whole other off-the-pitch issue once again that will have a negative impact on the entirety of the club.

It’s becoming ever trickier in football to navigate around these types of issues, with everything so heavily publicised, but hopefully, the Red Devils have learned their lesson from the Mason Greenwood situation and they will deal with this matter accordingly.
