Antonio Valencia hopes Manchester United sign Moises Caicedo

Antonio Valencia hopes his former club Manchester United sign fellow Ecuadorian Moises Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion.

Earlier this month, Caicedo revealed he would have considered a move to Old Trafford if a bid from the Red Devils had been submitted this summer.

United reportedly reignited their interest in signing the Seagulls ace after passing up the opportunity of signing him for £4.5m back in January 2021 from Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle.

According to the Sunday Mirror (14/8; page 76), Erik ten Hag’s Reds were interested in signing the South American, but the twenty-time league champions instead signed Casemiro from Real Madrid to bolster our engine room.

The 20-year-old has only made 16 appearances for Brighton, but his impressive performances haven’t gone unnoticed with the Premier League’s top sides.

Two of those 16 appearances have come against the Red Devils, and the 23-time Ecuador international has been on the winning side on both occasions.

Brighton’s number 25 scored his first goal for the Seagulls in the 4-0 win against United at the Amex Stadium in Ralf Rangnick’s penultimate game in interim charge.

Caicedo also played an instrumental role in Brighton spoiling Ten Hag’s first Premier League game in charge last month.

With Ecuador’s participation at the 2022 World Cup confirmed, Caicedo’s ever-growing stock could hit new heights if he stands out in Qatar.

Brighton are likely to demand at least ten times the amount they paid to sign Caicedo to part ways with the midfield enforcer. An impressive World Cup could see his value skyrocket.

After signing Casemiro and Christian Eriksen this summer, aside from Frenkie de Jong, Ten Hag’s focus may have shifted away from improving the midfield in the immediate future.

But one man who is hoping that Caicedo does play for Manchester United in the future is former captain Valencia.

Speaking to La Radio Redonda, the man who was signed from Wigan Athletic by Sir Alex Ferguson said: “I hope Moises Caicedo can go to a big team in England, he is a humble boy, he was born to be great and I hope he can come to Manchester United.”

Valencia, who made 339 appearances for United, won two Premier Leagues, two League Cups, an FA Cup and Europa League.
