David de Gea dropped a clanger against Chelsea on Sunday, spilling a long-range shot for Marcos Alonso to score.
De Gea’s form has been getting worse in recent weeks and this was his most clear cut error yet.
It may also have been the most costly. A win against Chelsea would have put United in a great position to secure a top-four spot.
A draw makes it unlikely even if United win the final two games.
De Gea’s body language after the game displayed a beaten man, with his confidence clearly draining.
Antonio Valencia sent a message after the game showing his support for De Gea.
You’ve been number one for many years at the premiere. You’re still the best goalkeeper in spite of everything. And one of the noblest people I’ve ever met. pic.twitter.com/VVy5o0Quow

His comments highlight the respect De Gea has of his teammates, even those who aren’t currently involved.
Valencia has spent nearly his entire United career playing alongside De Gea.
He is on his way out of the club, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.
De Gea hopefully is set to stay, and quickly get back to his best.
