Andreas Pereira scores winner on final game for Flamengo

Manchester United loanee Andreas Pereira scored the winner for Flamengo in the final game of his loan spell.

The 26-year-old’s goal in the 17th minute clinched a 1-0 win for Flamengo in the first leg of the Copa Libertadores last-16 clash against Tolima.

From long-range, the midfielder whipped the ball into the top corner leaving the Tolima goalkeeper Alexander Dominguez Carabali helpless as he watched the ball fly past him.

The one-time Brazil international’s loan spell back in his homeland is due to end today and he’ll return to Manchester United with his future up in the air.

Speaking in the press conference after scoring the winner for Flamengo in his final appearance for the Brazilian side, Pereira made it no secret that he wants to move to O mais querido do Brasil (the most beloved of Brazil) on a permanent deal.

The former PSV Eindhoven youngster finished his loan spell with Flamengo with eight goals and three assists from 53 appearances.

But the versatile midfielder whose contract at Manchester United expires next summer looks set to return to Carrington to see where he falls in Erik ten Hag’s plans.

Pereira has made 75 appearances for the United first team with his last outing coming in August 2020.

Its hard to see Pereira having a future under the former Ajax manager who is keen to reunite with Frenkie de Jong to bolster United’s midfield.

While the likes of Paul Pogba, Juan Mata, Nemanja Matic and Jesse Lingard are leaving the club as free agents, United are light on numbers in midfield.

But with Donny van de Beek hopefully set to show his best form under his former boss, and the likes of James Garner and Hannibal Mejbri hoping to impress Ten Hag – Pereira could find himself way down the pecking order and ultimately surplus to requirements.

Brazilian outlet UOL Esporte report Fulham have made an offer of £10 million which has a ‘principle agreement‘ from Manchester United, and is awaiting the ‘yes’ from Pereira.

Flamengo vice-president Marco Braz told Lance that the club were still looking at options to try and keep him, but they have yet to stump up the cash to sign him on a permanent deal.

Regardless of Pereira’s exploits in Brazil and his ability to score screamers from range, something Manchester United fans have become accustomed to seeing the ‘pre-season Pirlo’ produce, his future looks to lie away from Old Trafford.
