Andre Onana sends message after Manchester United win, Altay Bayindir’s response says everything

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana was one of the team’s stars in the win over Aston Villa.

Andre Onana learned very quickly at Manchester United that this is not a normal club. When he shouted at Harry Maguire in a pre-season game, he was scrutinised and criticised by pundits.

This is a club where every little thing is magnified, and then you add in some legitimately poor mistakes in the Champions League, and the spotlight grew more and more intense.

A bizarre stint at the African Cup of Nations last month saw the goalkeeper play just one game, before returning to instantly reclaim his place in the team.

Andre Onana outstanding against Aston Villa

Andre Onana had one of his best games of the season in Manchester United’s win over Aston Villa.

The goalkeeper was always alert, quick off his line, commanded his box well, and pulled off a succession of saves to ensure Manchester United won the game.

This was the type of performance United fans hoped to get from Onana when the club struck a deal to sign him from Inter Milan last summer.

Onana sent a message to fans on Instagram, which read: “Sunday evening well spent! Let’s keep this momentum going. C’mon United!.”

Altay Bayindir shows unity

While Onana was away at the AFCON, back-up goalkeeper Altay Bayindir stepped in and made his first team debut in the FA Cup fourth round win over Newport.

While this only intensified Bayindir’s desire for more game time, he is totally supportive of his fellow goalkeeper.

Bayindir left a response on Onana’s Instagram post with two hearts, in fact, he was the first teammate to reply.

This shows the unity on display in the Manchester United dressing room, the team spirit Erik ten Hag has managed to cultivate, which has the team pushing on for a top four place now.

It was a difficult start to the season for United, and for Onana, but there are real signs that things are coming good.
