Andre Onana looks set to join Manchester United and rekindle a successful partnership with defender Lisandro Martinez.
United are on the verge of securing a new goalkeeper.
Fabrizio Romano reports that an agreement for Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana should be in place by Wednesday or Thursday.
Personal terms are in place and Onana is now thoroughly expected to complete his move to Old Trafford very soon.
This is a changing of the guard for United with David De Gea confirming his departure from the club over the weekend.
Onana will now reunite with Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford having worked together Ajax, as well as former teammates Antony and Lisandro Martinez…
Andre Onana’s record with Lisandro Martinez explored
The link to Antony maybe isn’t so important given that they are rarely close together on the pitch.
Onana’s connection with Martinez is crucial though as the Argentinian will be a key defender in front of United’s expected new goalkeeper.
The pair already know each other very well having trained together regularly at Ajax whilst playing 63 games together.
MORE UNITED STORIES
That experience together will hopefully make United even better defensively and help Onana settle straight into life at Old Trafford.
Just how did Onana and Martinez fare together in those 63 games?
Well, they racked up 44 victories in total and went unbeaten in their first 16 games together at Ajax.
A similar kind of start at United would be very welcome.
Onana and Martinez only experienced five draws together and lost 14 times, including once to Chelsea to and twice to Liverpool.

Eredivisie influence on Manchester United business continues
Manchester United placed a keen focus on the Dutch market in Erik ten Hag’s first two transfer windows.
Ten Hag’s former Ajax pair Martinez and Antony arrived whilst left back Tyrell Malacia came in from Feyenoord.
Wout Weghorst – formerly of Heracles Almelo and AZ Alkmaar in the Eredivisie – arrived on on loan in January.
Onana would be another signing with history in the Netherlands whilst it’s important not to forget Mason Mount’s time at Vitesse Arnhem, where he first caught Ten Hag’s eye.
There are now rumours surrounding Sofyan Amrabat too, who previously played under Ten Hag at Utrecht before joining Feyenoord.
United now have a strong Eredivisie influence in Ten Hag’s squad and it’s something to keep in mind moving forward.
