Former Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera is facing another fresh start after his Boca Juniors contract was terminated.
Ander Herrera‘s contract at Boca Juniors has been terminated after an agreement between player and club.
Herrera signed for Boca Juniors in January 2025, transferring from Spanish side Athletic Club.
Now his stint in Argentina has come to an end, asking questions over what comes next for the former Red Devils ace.

Ander Herrera’s spell at Boca Juniors
Ander Herrera had rejoined Athletic Club after his stint at PSG, but his return to his boyhood side was wrecked by injuries.
Herrera satisfied a curiosity by deciding to play in South America, joining Boca Juniors and linking up with his former Manchester United teammates.
He was reunited with Marcos Rojo and Sergio Romero at Boca, who have both since left the club.
At this late stage in his career, and with a troubled recent injury history, Herrera was more of a squad player for Boca than a regular starter.
He played 29 games in total for the club, and scored his one and only goal this past April in a Copa Libertadores victory.
Herrera’s contract was due to expire in December 2026, but a decision has been made to cut his deal short.

Why Herrera’s deal was terminated
Ander Herrera’s contract termination at Boca Juniors was amicable, and could be in his best interests.
Boca Juniors agreed to hire new manager Rodolfo Arruabarrena earlier this week, replacing Claudio Ubeda.
Arruabarrena informed Herrera that he was not a key part of his plans, and a decision was made to cut his deal short by mutual consent, El Intransigente report.
The outlet states: “The Spaniard, who had arrived with expectations of bringing experience and leadership, failed to establish himself in the team.
“Injuries hampered his playing time, and his contribution fell short of expectations.
“Given this situation, the new coaching staff decided it was best to terminate his contract and explore other options in the transfer market to strengthen the position.”
Herrera’s exit also frees up a place within the foreign player quota, giving Boca greater maneuverability in the transfer market.
It is unclear whether Herrera, 36, will decide to retire, or if he is willing to explore other options to continue playing.
