How Lisandro Martinez performed against Egypt

Argentina got off to a bad start against Egypt.

The Egyptians were rewarded for applying pressure when Yasser Ibrahim opened the scoring in the 15th minute with his second goal for the national team. The Al Ahly SC centre-back conquered Martinez in the air to head his effort into the back of the net.

The height difference between the two players did anything but favour United’s defender, who was caught on the wrong side of Ibrahim.

Egypt thought they doubled their lead before the hour mark, but what seemed like a brilliant counter-attacking goal was ruled out for a foul on Martinez. They kept plugging away and finally made it 2-0 in the 67th minute.

Like Egypt’s first goal, Martinez will look back at it thinking he should have done better, after making multiple checks on Mostafa Ziko as the Pyramids FC striker found space inside the box to tap the ball across the line.

Argentina turned the game on its head when they scored two goals in the space of four minutes to equal the scoring.

In the second minute of stoppage time, Enzo Fernandez scored the winner to complete an incredible comeback win. for Argentina.

The comeback means Martinez’s World Cup campaign has not come to a premature end.
