Manchester United youngster Amad saw his first of FA Cup action at the weekend for loan side Sunderland.
The 20-year-old made sure it was a memorable one, with Sunderland coming from behind to score two injury-time goals to win 2-1 at Shrewsbury Town.
Amad had a vital role in the victory too, providing the assist for Luke O’Nien’s last gasp winner.
The Manchester United loanee showed composure on the ball out on the right wing, making the correct decision at the right moment to pick out his teammate on the edge of the box.
He didn’t try and run towards goal or do too much himself, or simply whip the ball into the box speculatively, instead he waited for his moment, and selected the right pass, helping his team to win the game.
The Sunderland Echo gave Amad a 7/10 for his performance, writing: “Shrewsbury couldn’t get the ball off him after the opening exchanges.”
Amad’s form is fantastic
Amad’s form has been excellent for Sunderland in recent weeks. He ended strongly before the World Cup, and picked up in the same place.
He now has seven combined goals and assists in his last 10 matches, with five goals and two assists.
It is this type of form which saw Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag quizzed about a potential recall for the winger.
Ten Hag told the club website that this was an option he had considered, but wanted to make the right call for Amad’s long-term development, and the winger will likely be staying put.
He added: “I see and I value his potential and his capabilities.”
If the Ivory Coast youngster can continue like this, then he will build up an even stronger case for a role in Manchester United’s first team this season.
With six senior goals in total for Sunderland, Amad will surely break double-figures before long. After a frustrating loan spell at Rangers last season, where he showed flashes but never really gained the confidence of his coach, it is great to see him flourishing.
