Amad in ‘advanced talks’ to join Sunderland on season-long loan

Manchester United youngster Amad Diallo is in ‘advanced talks’ to join Sunderland on a season-long loan, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Athletic reported yesterday that the Black Cats had spoken with the Red Devils about signing the young Ivorian for the duration of the 2022-23 campaign.

Despite featuring under Erik ten Hag during pre-season, the 20-year-old hasn’t featured in any of the four Premier League games.

United’s number 16 hasn’t formed part of any of the matchday squads and he’s also not featured for the club’s Under-21s side.

With Manchester United agreeing a deal to sign Antony from Ajax yesterday, the Ivory Coast international now looks set to spend the season away from Old Trafford.

Like Amad, the Brazilian is a dazzling talent who possesses a wicked left-foot that adds a different dimension to Ten Hag’s attack.

With Ten Hag reuniting with the former Sau Paulo starlet, the Dutchman looks to have sanctioned the Ivory Coast international’s temporary departure.

Having spent the second of last season with beaten Europa League finalists Rangers, spending a season in the Championship could be exactly what Amad needs.

After joining in January, Amad made 13 appearances in all competitions for the Glasgow giants and scored three goals during that time.

United signed Amad from Serie A side Atalanta in a deal worth £37million in 2020. The youngster remains one of the most exciting prospects across Europe, but he needs game time at senior level to aid his development.

Hopefully he gets that at the Stadium of Light under the stewardship of Tony Mowbray.

Amad looks set to follow United teammates Alvaro Fernandez, Ethan Laird and Hannibal Mejbri with a season-long loan move to a Championship side.
