Amad Diallo is having a sensational season at Sunderland whilst on loan from Manchester United.

The young Ivorian winger struggled for game time at Old Trafford following his hefty £37 million transfer from Atalanta and was subsequently sent on loan to Sunderland where he’s done nothing but thrive for the Championship side.

He did have a brief spell at Rangers before his time at the Black Cats but struggled to adapt to the boisterous nature of Scottish football.

The second tier of English football appears to have been the perfect switch for the 20-year-old, featuring 33 times for Sunderland, netting 12 goals and finding himself in the running for the Championship Player of the Year award.

Amad praised as ‘amazing footballer’

Amad particularly impressed once again in Sunderland’s 2-1 win over Birmingham City on Saturday. He scored the winner in the 75th minute and was awarded the Man of the Match award for his classy display.

Sunderland head coach Tony Mowbray gave his thoughts on the winger’s performance post-game and had nothing but high praise for the in-form forward.

“He’s an amazing footballer. He finds the game too easy sometimes. I need to poke him to make sure he’s giving everything for the team because the game’s too easy for him as an individual,” Mowbray told Sunderland’s media team.

It’s undeniable that Amad possesses immense raw talent, but the big question is can he make it at Manchester United?

It will be interesting to see if Erik ten Hag decides to utilise his qualities next season. United’s wingers are a position that has often changed throughout the course of the season, so there’s a chance that Amad could be added to this rotation.

After proving he is more than competent enough in the Championship, the natural progression does now have to be the Premier League – but can he cut it at a big club like Manchester United?

Time will tell, but we’re excited about the prospect of Amad Diallo featuring for the Red Devils once again.
